CEO Skydive Melbourne - Nick Stehr

CEO Skydive Melbourne

At HLS Healthcare, we have always focused on supporting our team members and their families, both inside and outside the office. That’s why we’re so thrilled to announce that Nick, our CEO, will be skydiving for Black Dog Institute on Friday, 6 May 2022. He’ll be skydiving with Skydive Australia to raise money for life-saving mental health research and education.

Black Dog Institute helps thousands of people every year, and we’re so honored to support their cause. We know first-hand how important it is to focus on mental health—after all, how can you do your best work if you’re worried about your dad’s depression? Or your kid’s anxiety?

We asked Nick a few questions about skydiving:

  1. Is it your first-time skydiving?

No. I did it once when I was 21 and much less aware of my mortality! It was so long ago; I remember it being exhilarating and had always wanted to do it again. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t scared but I do love a challenge and I am particularly passionate about this cause.

  1. Some say that skydiving battles mental health issues, do you believe this? Why?

I couldn’t say one way or the other. Having battled with mental health issues for years, I guess I will be able to answer that after Friday.

  1. What do you think are the positive effects of skydiving?

Life is about experience, not a destination. Skydiving is an extreme experience. We get so caught up in the day-to-day sometimes, it is important to fill our fun pillar.

  1. How did you find Black Dog Institute?

I have heard of them many times through various mediums, they do some great work in a much-needed area.

  1. Were you invited to participate or was it voluntary?

I was actually nominated by my team at HLS Healthcare.

  1. Aside from the help you will give to the institute, what do you want others to learn from this event?

I believe that it is in the darkness where mental health has its power. Awareness and openness are a significant step in helping people deal with mental health challenges. Having the courage to speak about it and seek help, especially for men. I want to raise awareness and get people talking about it.

Now that you know a little bit more about Nick and his thoughts on skydiving and mental health, we hope you’ll consider making a donation to support mental health. We believe everyone is capable of amazing things when they are in good mental health, and we want to make sure everyone has access to the resources they need to get there.

Nick is a prime example of an amazing person doing amazing things—and no one can match his passion for giving back. Please support Nick and help Black Dog Institute support Australians and mental health: https://www.teamblackdog.org.au/fundraisers/nickstehr
